About Haystack Fishing—Led by Local Guide Joe Hay
About Joe Hay - Dory Captain with 28 Years of Experience in Pacific City, Oregon

For some, fishing is a getaway—a break from our day-to-day routines. For me, it's a daily way of life. My name is Joe Hay, and I've been guiding dory boat fishing trips out of Pacific City, Oregon for over 28 years. I'm proud to hold the title of the longest-running dory boat charter in the area.
Every morning, I launch from the beach at Cape Kiwanda, taking customers straight to the rich fishing waters of the Pacific Ocean.
As a licensed dory fishing captain, I’ve helped thousands of people catch lingcod, rockfish, salmon, the occasional halibut, and of course, Dungeness crab. I’m proud to carry on the local tradition of
surf-launched dory fishing—something that
makes Haystack Fishing truly unique.
What sets my dory charter apart is the hands-on experience:
- Every trip is limited to six guests or fewer
- We often catch fish within minutes of launch
- You’ll enjoy direct access to Oregon’s best nearshore reefs
- We clean, fillet, vacuum seal, and even cook your catch on-site
I take pride in every trip, making each one personal, memorable, and safe. From early morning crab hauls to full-day bottom fishing adventures, I treat each trip like it’s the best one of the season.
Thank you for supporting a small, locally owned fishing charter. I look forward to seeing you on the beach—rods ready, coffee hot.
